31.01.2018 Paul Lätsch: Calculating similarities between concept description logics using the Jaccard-Index

Description Logics are a well investigated representations for ontologies via concepts. Calculating similarity between those concept description allows relaxed queries and relating concepts in distance to each other. This is mainly applied in medical and geoinformatical implementations and the Semantic Web. Already developed measures for such similarities often lack metric properties or only apply to weak Description Logics. So I want wo investigate an approach that strictly holds to the Jaccard-Index to preserve metric properties and enhance it to strong Description Logics and multiple exertion scenarios.

 

24.01.2018 Sepp Härtel: Entwicklung von Methoden und Komponenten zur Integration dynamischer und statischer Daten als Unterstützung der Produktion naturfaserverstärkter Kunststoffe (NFK)

The prototype presented in this lunch-talk is going to be deployed in combination with the demonstration facility "Hybrid-Form-Complex (HyFormX)" which is part of the Fraunhofer-Institute for machine tools and forming in Zittau. The long-term goal of HyFormX is the efficient mass-production of lightweight-design NFP-Hybrid-Structures. The potential of NFP has not been utilized efficiently so far which limits the use of natural reinforcing fibre like hemp, flax and sisal in the plastic processing industrie to selected applications only. Until mass-production will be available, the production process supports only one time manufacturing so far. The planned prototype should support researchers during the documentation (and optimization) of process and material parameters for the complete process chain. The lunch talk features the current state of the prototype and highlights some of the used technologies, e.g.: OPC UA, GraphQL, Neo4j, Vue.js.

 

17.01.2018 Jörg Lässig: Understanding Quantum Computing - Computing Model and Algorithms

Currently a second quantum revolution is taking place. In the last century -in a first quantum revolution- the fundamental laws of quantum science were discovered and further evolved. Ground breaking technologies such as the transistor and the laser have been developed, utilizing the new physics and its principles. Now, on the next level, technologies that explicitly address individual states with quantum properties such as superposition and entanglement are developed and established. Quantum communication and cryptography are vivid research areas as well as quantum information processing and quantum computing. In an initial short lecture we want to get access to the field of quantum computing by reviewing the model behind it as well as fundamental algorithms and shed light in the current state of quantum computing technologies.

 

01.11.2017 Robert Stricker: Evaluation and Optimization of Security Aspects and Scalability for Identity Access Management in Microservice-Architectures

This work evaluates different authorization methods for the microservice architectural pattern which is subject to a thorough threat analysis as well. Therefore, not only security aspects are considered, but application related properties like scalability and response time as well. The concept of a distributed authorization will be introduced which matches the intention of microservices more closely than a central authorization component used by conventional methods. Using a prototypical implementation and an extensive series of measurements it is established that the presented solution is superior to the previous concepts in several aspects.

 

11.10.2017 Felix Lüpke: Evaluation Backend-Architectures for an Anonymous Online Shopping System

To evaluate different architectural patterns and to answer the general question of using a service-based or a monolithic system, the practicality of a non-technical structural analysis has been examined. Based on the guiding principles by Melvin E. Conways, we identified a general proposition for a system architectur which is substantiated with a follow-up technical evaluation of established architectural patterns. The talk will discuss the results and their impact on software engineering.

 

26.09.2017 Patrick Schmidt: Evaluation of Image Recognition and Image Processing Technologies for an App to Capture Meter Readings

To acquire readings from a power meter, currently, the readings have to be written down or entered manually into a device. This process is time consuming and prone to errors. One way to optimize this process is capturing the meter readings with a smartphone app. The talk will be about OCR (Optical Character Recognition) which forms the basis for detecting the numbers in meter readings. Furthermore, Patrick is going to present frameworks which can be used to support the capture of meter readings through text recognition.
